Kazakh state-owned TV channel ends Russian-language broadcasting

(SRI) - The state-owned "Kazakhstan" TV channel dropped all Russian-language broadcasting as of September 1, Interfax reported on Friday.

According to a reporter of the TV channel's abolished Russian-language division, layoffs at the TV channel had begun in the summer and the last remaining Russian-language division staff have been dismissed as of September 1, Interfax reported.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in May the TV channel would transition to all-Kazakh-language broadcasting in September. Before September 1, Russian broadcasting made up 25% of the channel's airtime.
