Kazakhstan’s current account deficit totaling $3.4 billion in Jan-Sep

Kazakhstan’s current account deficit in the first nine months of 2009 totaled $3.4 billion, the National Bank of Kazakhstan reported last week.

 

 

In the third quarter of 2009, Kazakhstan recorded a current account surplus of $286 million, after recording current account deficits of $1.1 billion and $2.6 billion in the first and second quarter, respectively.

 

Exports from Kazakhstan increased by 32 percent quarter-on-quarter in July through September to $12.4 billion and imports rose by 2 percent to $7.4 billion. In January through September, exports and imports totaled $29.9 billion and $20.8 billion, respectively.

 

Foreign direct investment amounted to $2.99 billion in the third quarter and $8.17 billion in the first nine months of 2009.
