Joint commission to try resolve strike at Karazhanbasmunai

(SRI) - Local authorities, and representatives of KazMunaiGas Exploration and Production (KMG EP), trade unions and striking workers have agreed to form a working commission to resolve the strike at the Karazhanbasmunai oil facility, the Kazakhstan-Novosti news agency last week.

"It was decided that while the commission operates, there will be a moratorium on firing of employees [...] and those that have been dismissed from work may request to be reinstated in their position," the Mangistau regional administration said in a statement.

According to local media, about 40% of Karazhanbasmunai workers have been on strike since May, demanding better pay and improved working conditions.

Karazhanbasmunai, located in the Mangistau region of western Kazakhstan, is a Kazakh-Chinese joint venture between CITIC, China's biggest state-owned investment company, and KMG EP, the upstream subsidiary of the national oil and gas company KazMunaiGas.
