Kazatomprom ex-president determined to prove his innocence at an open trial, lawyer

Nurlan Bisekeyev, the defense lawyer of the former chief of Kazatomprom Mukhtar Djakishev announced that his client has irresistible proof of his innocence, which he is ready to present at an open trial.

"The only thing my client needs right now is a possibility to talk to professional lawyers, whom he may trust. Not being a lawyer himself, Djakishev certainly needs professional legal advice and assistance,” the lawyer told the Vremya weekly on Saturday.

As reported, Bisekeyev has taken on Djakishev’s case as his defense lawyer. During his over two-month pretrial detention Djakishev was unable to enjoy legal advice, as he rejected the public lawyers appointed by court and was banned to use services of the lawyers hired by his family.

The lawyer said that that he and his colleagues "regained hope" “to present Djakishev at the trial as it is provided by law.” “Otherwise, the legality of court procedures would raise serious doubts,” he said.
