Ablyazov brings new accusations against Kulibayev

(SRI) - Mukhtar Ablyazov, former head of one of Kazakhstan's largest banks, BTA Bank, has brought new accusations against Timur Kulibayev, deputy chairman of the state holding and investment company Samruk-Kazyna and son-in-law of President Nazarbayev, Interfax reported.

Ablyazov, who is wanted in Kazakhstan on charges of embezzlement and fraud, claims Kulibayev defrauded the Kazakh treasury of $1.8 billion in the sale of Kazakh oil company MangistauMunaiGas to Chinese CNPC last year. Ablyazov reportedly sent a letter outlining the charges to Kazakhstan's authorities including the ruling Nur Otan party and the Parliament.

In January, Ablyazov said that a group led by Kulibayev, first vice president of the national oil company KazMunaiGas from February 2002 to October 2005, sold the state's in another oil project to Chinese investors for a price "far below" market value.

Kazakh prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for Ablyazov last March on suspicion of embezzling money from BTA and laundering it through loans to fictitious companies. Ablyazov, who now resides outside Kazakhstan, has denied the charges.
